Paris, A Walking Day Tour

Paris, A Walking Day Tour

Paris is such a beautiful city, and offers something for everyone. Whether you seek great food, active nightlife, cultural experiences, or a relaxing weekend away, you’ll be challenged to find yourself disappointed in the French Capital of love.

We started the morning with a cappuccino in the courtyard at Le Royal Monceau, then walked to the nearby Parc Monceau. On any day, you will find kids playing, or others sunbathing in this beautiful and charming park, surrounded by gorgeous Parisian buildings. Take a moment for yourself and relax on one of the park benches before continuing on with your day.

From here, walk over to L’arc de Triomphe, one of the most famous monuments in Paris. While pictures from afar are amazing, you can also pay to go up to the top for a higher view of the city, and all the streets that spread deep into the capital from this stunning center.

Walk down the Avenue des Champs-Élysées southeast toward the Louvre. If you’re feeling up for it, this street is one of the most celebrated shopping districts in the world, featuring many flagship designer stores. Enjoy the walk and the scenery along the way, and consider a coffee break in one of the outdoor areas for some fascinating people watching.

You will eventually find yourself at the gardens of the Musée de Louvre, the world’s largest art museum and home to the famous Mona Lisa painting. If time permits, a trip inside the exhibits is absolutely worth it! Otherwise, you are sure to obtain some fascinating photographs outside. At this point you’ll certainly have worked up an appetite. There are many local places to dine in the area near Place Vendôme before continuing on.

After lunch, if your feet haven’t given up on you yet, walk down toward Notre Dame, about a mile away southeast. You can even walk along the Seine river for a scenic walk and some fresh air. If you like books, a stop into the nearby Shakespeare and Company is a must (very close to Notre Dame).

From here, walk along the Seine river northwest, where you will eventually pass Musée d’Orsay on your way toward the Eiffel Tower. You will also pass the Musée de Louvre again on the other side of the river and can get some lovely pictures from this new viewpoint. Keep on going and you will eventually come upon the Eiffel Tower, where your heart is sure to melt. You can pay for access to climb the stairs or take the elevator to the top if you want to get a full panoramic view of Paris. Another great viewpoint of the monument is from the Jardins du Trocadéro across the river. You can even stop by a nearby shop, grab some cheese, crackers, and a bottle of wine and setup a picnic in the garden while basking in the views and reflecting on the scenery of the day.

If this sounds like too much walking, fear not. There are plenty of taxi’s available, and Uber also exists in the city. But if you prefer to travel like a local, the cities Metro system is hard to beat, with each trip at just EUR 1.90 per trip. Insider’s tip: download the app City Mapper for the best way to get from place to place using public transport.
